求剖析一个句子，after后面不可以用过去时的动词吗？

今天做复习资料的时候看到一个完形填空：

after __1___that,she said sorry and helped him ____2___for his watch , at last they found it under a chair.

我1写的是heard，2是looking

答案是1 hearing, 2 look

我有点不知道了，想表达“听完将来”用after+Ved不对吗？

还有后半句的帮他找手表，不应该用helped him looking for his watch吗？为何是look呢？用动词原型的话，前面也有个help动词，不就变成两个谓语动词了么，这里为什么用look原型

【答】1. 这里的after 只能说介词，后面接动名词。 2.said 和 helped 是并列的谓语动词。在 ”help + 宾语”后面可以接动词不定式作宾语补足语（有无 to 均可），不可以接动词的 -ing 形式。
